Description

AMSEC Wall Safes for Discreet Residential Storage

A wall safe is the discreet cousin of the floor safe. Mounted between standard 16″-on-center wall studs, recessed flush with the drywall, and concealed behind a painting, mirror or piece of art, a wall safe is invisible to a quick burglary. North Valley Locksmith is an authorized AMSEC dealer and we sell, install and service wall safes across the Phoenix metro.

What’s Included

  • Your selected AMSEC wall safe (WS series or WEST high-security series)
  • Free site visit: stud bay selection, electrical and plumbing verification, install location
  • Drywall cutout and stud-bay preparation
  • Safe mounting and anchor installation to the studs
  • Drywall finish and trim flush with surrounding wall
  • Combination set, written record stored only by you
  • Recommendation on what to hang in front of the safe and how to attach it so it swings clear when you need access

The AMSEC Wall Safe Series We Sell

WS Series — Standard Wall Safe

Standard residential wall safe. Steel body, recessed door, key or combination lock. Sized to fit between standard 16″-on-center studs. Various depths to accommodate 2×4 or 2×6 wall framing. Holds cash, jewelry boxes, watches, important documents, small electronics.

Right for: Most residential installs. The default recommendation if “I want a wall safe” is the entire spec.

WEST Series — High-Security Wall Safe

Heavier construction, thicker plate steel, electronic lock with multiple user codes, internal lighting. Lower fire and burglary margin than a free-standing safe but substantially better than the WS for high-value contents.

Right for: Higher-value contents, executive home offices, master closet installs where the customer wants more than entry-level.

Wall Safe Limitations (Be Honest With Yourself)

A wall safe is a great concealment device. It is not a great burglary safe. The safe sits between drywall and is anchored to wood studs. A determined burglar with 30 minutes and a sledgehammer can extract the safe by demolishing the drywall around it. Wall safes are best for:

  • Discretion (the safe nobody knows is there)
  • Quick-access daily-use items (jewelry, daily watch, passport, cash)
  • Secondary storage in a home that already has a floor safe or free-standing safe for the high-value items

For primary high-value storage (large cash holdings, firearms, irreplaceable jewelry, TL-rated insurance requirements), use a free-standing home safe, a floor safe, or a TL-rated burglary safe.

How Wall Safe Installation Works

  1. Site visit. We pick the wall and the exact stud bay. Verify no electrical, plumbing or HVAC runs through the bay. Check insulation type. Confirm wall framing depth (2×4 vs 2×6).
  2. Drywall cutout. Clean rectangular cut, sized to the safe’s exterior flange.
  3. Safe mounting. Safe is anchored to both flanking studs with manufacturer-supplied lag screws. Anti-removal lugs engage the inside face of the studs.
  4. Drywall finish. The safe’s exterior flange sits flush with the surrounding wall. Trim and paint touch-up if needed.
  5. Concealment hardware. If you’re hanging a painting, mirror or art piece in front, we install a concealed hinge or French cleat so the cover swings or lifts clear without re-hanging it every time.

Where to Install a Wall Safe

  • Behind a painting in the master bedroom or office. Classic. Works.
  • Inside a master closet, behind clothes. Discreet, climate-stable, easy daily access.
  • Behind a hinged mirror in a bathroom or dressing area. Mirror swings open to reveal the safe.
  • Behind a piece of furniture in a home office. A short bookcase or filing cabinet that slides aside.
  • NOT in an exterior wall. Insulation gets disturbed; the safe is exposed to outdoor temperature swings.
  • NOT behind a TV. The TV is the second thing a burglar grabs and the safe is now visible.

Service After the Sale

Combination changes, lock conversions (mechanical to electronic and back), battery service on electronic locks, emergency openings. See our safe opening service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will installing a wall safe damage my wall?

No. We cut a clean rectangular opening, mount the safe, and finish the drywall. Done correctly, the wall is structurally and visually intact. We touch up paint to match.

Can I install a wall safe myself?

You can. We don’t recommend it. The risks: cutting through electrical, plumbing, or low-voltage wiring; installing without engaging both flanking studs (the safe pulls out of the wall in 90 seconds); botching the drywall cut and needing a contractor anyway. Our wall safe install is typically $150-$400 and includes the drywall finish.

Is a wall safe fireproof?

Most are not. Wall safe construction prioritizes depth and weight constraints. They are concealment devices, not fire safes. If you need fire protection for documents, see our fireproof safes.

What’s behind a wall safe in an exterior wall?

Insulation, vapor barrier, sheathing, siding. Installing in an exterior wall disturbs the insulation envelope and can create a thermal weak spot. We default to interior walls.
